Women's Basketball Downs Goldey-Beacom for Third Straight Win
Purple Knights improve to 6-3 this season, 4-1 in the CACC.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing for the first time after a two-week holiday break, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team built an early cushion and never looked back in a 66-58 win over Goldey-Beacom on Saturday afternoon at Hubbell Gym. The conference victory pushes UB's record to 6-3 overall and 4-1 inside the CACC this season.
The Purple Knights outscored the Lightning by 17 points over the first three quarters, including an 18-8 opening frame, and pushed their advantage to as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.
UB also matched a season low with just 12 turnovers and controlled the glass with a 43-33 rebounding edge.
Offensively, Bridgeport placed three players in double figures, led by Niyah Whitten, who poured in a season-high 16 points. She also added two assists and a steal.
Nicole Benini delivered a standout performance of her own, recording the first double-double of her career with 15 points and a season-high 10 rebounds while also swatting a season-high three shots.
Jaelyn Choi added 11 points in her first career start, joining Whitten and Benini as double-figure scorers. The trio combined to knock in all five of UB's three-pointers in the contest.
Sophomore Savannah Prescott orchestrated the offense with a team-high and season-best seven assists, helping UB tally 15 helpers on the afternoon.
Fellow sophomore Zahkiyyah Frazier helped anchor the interior with 10 rebounds, marking her fifth double-digit rebounding effort of the season, and she now ranks third in the CACC at 9.6 boards per game.
Solid contributions off the bench from Alycia Secchiaroli and India Lee, who combined for 13 points, also helped the Purple Knights maintain their momentum throughout the contest.
