Women's Basketball Tops Georgian Court, Improves to 3-1 in CACC Play
Purple Knights put three in double figures, knock down season-high 22 free throws.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Sparked by three players in double figures and a season-best performance from the free-throw line (22-of-31), the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team posted a 64-53 win over Georgian Court on Saturday. The victory pushes the Purple Knights to 3-1 in CACC play this season while moving to 4-3 overall.
Sophomore point guard Savannah Prescott delivered another steady performance to lead UB, playing all 40 minutes and registering team-highs in both points (19) and steals (3). The New Jersey native has now reached double figures in five of UB's eight contests.
Prescott continues to lead the Purple Knights in scoring this season at 12.3 points per game. She is also UB's leader in steals per contest at 2.6.
Karolina Andersson turned in a season-best outing of her own, scoring 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting while connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. She also contributed team-highs in both rebounds (6) and assists (3) as Bridgeport maintained control for much of the afternoon.
Sophomore Nicole Benini added season highs off the bench courtesy of eight points and five rebounds, providing a spark on both ends of the floor, while Niyah Whitten continued her strong stretch with 12 points to score in double figures for the third straight game.
Bridgeport leaned on its free-throw shooting to extend their lead, finishing with a season-high 22 made foul shots. UB also tallied its second-highest field-goal percentage of the season, finishing 19-for-41 (46.3%) from the field.
