Women's Basketball Erases Early Deficit in 63-61 Loss at Jefferson
Game featured a remarkable 28 lead changes, Purple Knights battled back from 13-0 hole, led by one with 35 seconds left.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Despite erasing an early 13–0 deficit and battling through 28 lead changes, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team fell just short in a 63-61 road loss at Jefferson University (6-2, 2-1) on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the Purple Knights' first in conference play (2-1) and puts their overall record at 3-3 this season.
UB put together one of its best shooting performances of the year from long range, knocking down a season-high 10 three-pointers and outrebounding the Rams 39-28, including an impressive 18 offensive boards.
Sophomore guard Savannah Prescott paced UB with a career-high 22 points, hitting three threes and going 7-of-11 at the line while adding six rebounds and three assists.
Fellow sophomore, Zahkiyyah Frazier, also put together a great stat line courtesy of nine points and 10 rebounds, and Niyah Whitten and India Lee each contributed 10 points, with Whitten draining a pair of threes and Lee going 2-for-3 from deep.
Prescott and Frazier are now tied for the team lead in points per game (11.2) this season. Frazier is also UB's leader in rebounds per contest at 11.2 (2nd in the CACC) while Prescott leads the way in steals (2.5) and assists (2.5).
Senior Karolina Andersson added six points and a team-high five assists on Saturday while helping orchestrate an offense that saw five different players connect from beyond the arc.
After finding themselves in an early hole, the Purple Knights caught fire in the second quarter, using five three-pointers in the period to take a 28–25 lead at halftime.
UB led 46–43 entering the fourth and held multiple advantages down the stretch, but Jefferson converted timely baskets in the final minute.
A Prescott bucket and free throw gave the visitors a 61–60 lead with 35 seconds left, but the Rams answered and added a late free throw to seal it.
