Women's Basketball Handed 52-44 Setback at Caldwell
Mireya Johnson scored a season-high 10 points off the bench.
CALDWELL, N.J. – Coming off a decisive win over Wilmington over the weekend, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team dropped a 52-44 matchup at Caldwell on Tuesday night. The loss shifts the Purple Knights' record to 2-3 in the CACC this season.
A trio of double-figure scorers led the way for Bridgeport against the Cougars. Ana Gascon, who scored a team-high 14 points on Saturday, added 13 more tonight. She contributed eight rebounds as well.
Shakira Hester was also strong for the Purple Knights, recording her third double-double of the year. The senior registered 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Hester also totaled five assists, three steals and three blocks, all of which served as team bests.
Mireya Johnson put in 10 points as well which is her highest total of the year. She also chipped in a season-best six boards off the bench.
UB's offense put together a 17-for-64 (26.6%) effort from the field, a 4-of-24 (16.7%) clip from long range and a 6-for-8 (75%) performance from the free-throw line.
Trailing by 13 at the half and 15 after three quarters, Bridgeport was able to cut the Caldwell lead to just eight points in the fourth quarter.
The Purple Knights tallied 13 assists on their 17 made field goals.
