Women's Basketball Rolls Past Wilmington, 88-43
Purple Knights improve to 2-2 in the CACC this season.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Sparked by their highest point total in over three years, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team earned an 88-43 win over Wilmington on Saturday. The victory improves the Purple Knights' record to 2-2 in the CACC this season.
Bridgeport's offensive onslaught featured a 14-point lead after the first quarter and a season-high 30 points scored in the second quarter.
The Purple Knights posted a massive 50-17 advantage at halftime before stretching their lead to as many as 45 points in the second half.
UB's impressive attack, which featured 13 different scorers, also had UB tally season bests in three-pointers (10), three-point percentage (43.5%), free throws (20), rebounds (50), and assists (20).
The Purple Knights logged a season low eight turnovers in the game as well while forcing 20 Wilmington turnovers. UB scored 34 points off WU's turnovers.
Individually, Bridgeport had four score in double figures. Ana Gascon led the way with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. She knocked in a season-high three three-pointers in addition to grabbing nine rebounds.
Shakira Hester finished second on UB with 12 points while Harmony Earth-Wiley tallied a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Hester added seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks as well.
Niyah Whitten chipped in 11 points of her own off the bench. UB's crew off the bench accounted for a season-high 43 points and nine assists.
