Women's Basketball Falls to SNHU, 61-51
Purple Knights will host another NE10 foe, Pace University, on Wednesday (12/18) at 5:30 p.m.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a stretch of five straight non-conference games, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team endured a 61-51 defeat to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday.
In the end, it was a tough first quarter that doomed UB against the Penmen. Following a 23-9 first quarter, Bridgeport outscored SNHU by four points through the final 30 minutes.
The Purple Knights' most successful stretch was when they cut the Penmen lead to 57-49 with 1:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. UB rattled off a 13-3 run to trim the edge but that would be as close as it would get.
Bridgeport posted a trio of season highs against SNHU on Saturday. UB finished with 16 steals, 16 assists and nine three-pointers—all of which are team bests through 11 games.
The Purple Knights' numbers in the game also featured a 40-35 rebounding margin. They have now outrebounded their opponents in three of their last four games.
Individually, Ciera Cevallos piled up a season-high and team-high 15 points. She also dished out a season-best and team-best five assists.
Ana Gascon, meanwhile, recorded a stat line of 11 points, 14 rebounds and five steals. She currently ranks fourth in the CACC in steals per game (2.0) this season and seventh in rebounds per game (7.5).
Niyah Whitten served as UB's third double-figure scorer. She matched Gascon in both points (11) and assists (5) while also grabbing six rebounds.
