Women's Basketball Dropped by D'Youville, 56-51

SPARKILL, N.Y. – In their second game in a 24-hour span to begin the new season, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team was defeated by D'Youville on Saturday by a score of 56-51. The loss puts the Purple Knights' record at 0-2 so far this year.
For the second straight contest, Shakira Hester piloted the Bridgeport offense. The senior poured in a team-high 19 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals.
Hester was joined in double figures by Ana Gascon and Niyah Whitten. Gascon recorded 11 points in her UB debut while Whitten added 12 off 4-of-8 shooting (2-for-3 from three-point range).
Gascon tallied a team-high three steals as well. Bridgeport finished with 11 takeaways in the game and forced 24 turnovers. Whitten, meanwhile, grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
The Purple Knights obtained just three points off their bench while collectively shooting 20-of-55 (36.4%) from the field.
D'Youville put together a 41-20 advantage in rebounds, including a 15-6 edge on the offensive side of the glass.
Trailing by 20 early in the second half, Bridgeport cut the Saints' lead to as low as seven at the 4:08 mark of the fourth quarter.
