Freshman Amani Melendez Named CACC Women's Basketball Rookie Of The Week For The Third Time So Far In 2022-23
Helped The Purple Knights To Two Wins Last Week To Run The Team's Winning Streak to Three
New Haven, Conn.-For the third time this season, University of Bridgeport freshman women's basketball standout Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's Rookie of the Week for her outstanding play in games that took place from December 28, 2022 through January 2, 2023.
In UB's wins over Alliance University and Wilmington (Del.) University last week that upped the Purple Knights' winning streak to three games, Amani averaged 15.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. She also shot 52.4 % (11-of-21) from the floor and hit 8-of-17 three-point shots (47.1 %).
Melendez also dished off two assists and had a steal and a blocked shot in the two Bridgeport victories.
Seniors Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) from the women's basketball squad and Malcolm Moye (Windsor, Conn.) form the UB Men's basketball team earned spots on this week's CACC Hoops Honor Roll for their outstanding play during that same time period.
