Amani Melendez Earns Second Straight CACC Rookie Of The Week Honor
Averaged 18.5 Points, 4.5 Rebound And 2.5 Assists In Two Games Last Week
New Haven, Conn.-For the second straight week. University of Bridgeport women's basketball freshman standout Amani Melendez (Woodbridge, Va.) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's Rookie of the Week. This week sharing the award with Imani Gillette of Georgian Court University for their outstanding performances in game that took place from November 14 through 20, 2022.
In a 1-1 week for the Purple Knights, Melendez averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Once again, Amani shot the ball extremely well hitting 55.0 percent (12-of-22) of her field goals, including going a red-hot 8-of-9 (89.0%) from behind the three-point arc.
Against AIC on Wednesday night, Melendez led UB with 20 points, and she followed that up with a game-high 17 points in a win at Pace on Saturday.
From the UB men's basketball team, senior Mason Williams (Voorhees, N.J.) earned a spot on this week's CACC Honor Roll, as he scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in the team's only action last week in a win at AIC on Tuesday that gives Bridgeport a 3-0 record heading into Tuesday action at mercy College.
