Women's Basketball Earns Both Weekly Conference Awards In First Release Of 2013-14 Season
Aziza Patterson Named Player of the Week And Evelyn Ovner Selected Rookie of the Week
Central Islip, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team has swept the first edition of the East Coast Conference Weekly Awards for the 2013-14 season, as senior guard Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) has been named the ECC's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and freshman forward Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) earned ECC Rookie of the Week accolades for their outstanding play in the Purple Knights season-opening win over Felician College and Post University.
Patterson scored a career-high 31 points in UB's season-opening 90-79 win over Felician on Saturday. On the week, Aziza averaged 24 points, 6.0 assists 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game as the Purple Knights opened 2013-14 at 2-0.
Ovner got her collegiate career off to a strong start averaging a double at 16.5 points and a team-leading 11.0 points.
This week, the UB women's basketball team is in action on the road at St. Michael's College on Thursday night and Franklin Pierce University on Sunday afternoon.
