Softball's Historic 2026 Season Ends With 2-1 Loss to SNHU in NCAA East Regional
CACC Champion Purple Knights finish with 33 wins for the second straight year.
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - One day after falling to second-seeded Adelphi in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional, the University of Bridgeport softball team (33-20) saw its remarkable 2026 campaign come to a close on Friday with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to sixth-seeded SNHU.
UB concludes the year with a 33-20 overall record after earning its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance and capturing the program's first-ever CACC Championship earlier this month.
Bridgeport struck first against SNHU in the top of the first inning courtesy of senior Mya Jones. The 2026 CACC Player of the Year launched a solo home run to left field with two outs, giving the Purple Knights an early 1-0 lead in what marked the final collegiate game of her sensational career.
Jones wrapped up one of the greatest careers in program history with a remarkable .415 batting average and 170 RBIs across 177 games played in a Purple Knights uniform. She was one of the driving forces behind an unforgettable four-year stretch that saw UB total 123 victories and make three consecutive trips to the NCAA East Regional.
Senior right-hander Vise Zarate once again battled in the circle in her final appearance for UB. The CACC Tournament MVP allowed just two earned runs while scattering five hits across six innings of work.
Zarate closed out a tremendous postseason run in which she posted a dazzling 1.17 ERA across 42.0 innings pitched spanning the CACC Tournament and NCAA Regional play. She concludes her outstanding collegiate career with a 3.08 ERA, 323 strikeouts and more than 612 innings pitched across 116 appearances.
UB's 2026 campaign will be remembered as one of the most successful in school history. Along with securing the program's first-ever CACC title, the Purple Knights finished with 33 wins for the second consecutive season and earned their fifth NCAA Tournament berth over the last six years.
