Softball Falls to No. 2 Seed Adelphi in Opening Game of NCAA East Regional
Purple Knights, now 33-19 overall, move to the loser's side of the bracket; Will play elimination game on Friday.
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Making their third straight appearance in the NCAA East Regional, the seventh-seeded University of Bridgeport softball team fell to host and No. 2 seed Adelphi, 3-0, on Thursday afternoon in Garden City, N.Y. With the loss, the Purple Knights move to 33-19 this season and will continue play in an elimination game on Friday.
Although the Purple Knights were held to just five hits on the afternoon, they threatened multiple times against the Panthers.
UB loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the first inning but were unable to break through, while also stranding multiple runners in both the fourth and fifth innings.
The Purple Knights finished the contest leaving 10 runners on base.
UB's offense was paced by the top of its lineup as Sydnee Perreault, Breanna Pelaez and Mya Jones each reached base twice with a hit and a walk apiece.
Jones doubled and stole a base in the contest while Sienna Lucas and Lacie Grenier added singles.
Senior right-hander Vise Zarate was strong in the circle despite suffering the loss. The reigning CACC Tournament MVP allowed just two earned runs while striking out five and walking only one across six innings of work.
Zarate lowered her ERA to 2.68 this season over 164.1 innings pitched while moving to 19-9 overall.

The Purple Knights will take on the loser of third-seeded STAC and sixth-seeded SNHU on Friday at 12:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
