NEW CASTLE, Del. – The third-seeded University of Bridgeport softball team opened its run at the 2026 CACC Championship Weekend with a 7-4 win over second-seeded Felician on Thursday afternoon in New Castle, Del. The Purple Knights improve to 31-18 overall after building an early four-run advantage and holding on to advance to the winner's side of the bracket. UB will now face top-seeded Caldwell on Friday at 11 a.m. for a spot in the CACC title game.
UB wasted little time jumping in front of the Golden Falcons, scoring twice in both the second and third innings to seize a 4-0 lead.
Nathalie Mongrain delivered the first big swing of the afternoon with a two-run single in the second inning while McKenzie Morgan powered UB's offense with a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance behind the plate.
Lacie Grenier also played a key role in the victory, going 1-for-4 while scoring a team-best two runs and stealing a base.
The Purple Knights continued to apply pressure throughout the afternoon, taking advantage of six Felician errors which helped lead to five unearned runs in the contest.
In the circle, Vise Zarate turned in another strong outing to earn her league-leading 17th victory (17-8) of the season. The senior allowed just one earned run on four hits over 5.1 innings of work while walking only one batter.
Prior to first pitch on Thursday, junior Samantha Ledger was honored with the CACC's Top XVI Award which signifies the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championship site. Ledger owns a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as a Business Administration major.
