BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Hosting the opening round of the 2026 CACC Championship Tournament, the third-seeded University of Bridgeport softball team (30-18) swept sixth-seeded Goldey-Beacom on Saturday to punch its ticket to next week's Championship Weekend at Wilmington. The Purple Knights secured the best-of-three series with an 8-0 victory in game one followed by a 7-5 win in game two.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 8, Goldey-Beacom 0 (Five Innings)
The Purple Knights erupted for 14 hits and broke the game open early, plating four runs in the second and three more in the third to seize full control.
UB's offense was relentless, with five players recording multiple hits.
Leading the charge was Sydnee Perreault, who delivered a sensational performance out of the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored while blasting two doubles and a triple.
Breanna Pelaez also tallied three hits with an RBI and a run scored, while Sophia Philippou and Mya Jones each added two hits. Paityn Thibodeaux chipped in with a pair of hits as well, both of which drove in runs.
In the circle, Vise Zarate was just as impressive, turning in a complete-game shutout to earn her conference-best 15th victory of the season.
The senior right-hander allowed just three hits over five innings while striking out five, keeping the Lightning off the board and securing her 15th complete-game effort of the year.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 7, Goldey-Beacom 5
Trailing 5-0 through the first two innings, the Purple Knights stormed back in emphatic fashion, erupting for five runs in the second to even the score before adding two more in the fourth to take their first lead of the game.
Perreault once again powered the comeback, delivering the biggest swing of the day with a game-tying three-run home run in the second inning—her team-leading 10th of the season, which is tied for the top mark in the CACC.
The leadoff hitter finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the finale and capped a monster doubleheader by going 5-for-9 with six RBIs, three doubles, a triple and a home run.
Philippou continued her standout day as well, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, including a two-run double that sparked UB's first rally.
Bridgeport grabbed the lead for good in the fourth inning, as Pelaez singled home the go-ahead run before Perreault later came around to score on a Goldey-Beacom error to provide an insurance tally.
In the circle, Zarate delivered a clutch relief performance to seal the win.
Entering with UB trailing 5-0 in the second inning, the senior right-hander shut the door on the Lightning the rest of the way, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out three.
