NUTLEY, N.J. – Beginning the final eight days of the regular season, which features three CACC doubleheaders, the University of Bridgeport's softball team dropped a pair of tight matchups at Felician on Tuesday. The Purple Knights (24-18, 9-5 CACC) were defeated by final scores of 3-2 and 5-4.
GAME ONE – Felician 3, Bridgeport 2
Despite striking first, the Purple Knights were unable to generate enough offense, finishing with just four hits in the setback.
UB's offense came early, as Sienna Lucas knocked a one-out double before Paityn Thibodeaux launched a two-run home run to give UB a 2-0 advantage.
Thibodeaux added a single later in the game to finish with two of the team's four hits, while Lacie Grenier also contributed a double in the opening frame.
Felician chipped away with a run in the second before taking the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs, which ultimately proved to be the difference.
In the circle, Samantha Ledger provided a strong effort out of the bullpen, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out four to keep UB within striking distance.
GAME TWO – Felician 5, Bridgeport 4
Felician jumped in front early, scoring once in the first inning and adding two more in the second before extending the lead to 5-2 with a two-run fourth.
UB responded with a pair of runs in both the third and sixth innings but were unable to complete the comeback.
McKenzie Morgan and Grace DuBrava provided the bulk of UB's offense, each delivering two-run doubles.
Morgan's two-bagger in the third brought the Purple Knights within one at 3-2, while DuBrava came through in the sixth to again trim the deficit to a single run.
Thibodeaux also reached base three times with a single and two walks to help spark the offense.
In the circle, Vise Zarate turned in a strong relief effort, tossing three innings while allowing just one run on four hits.
