BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In a battle between the top two teams currently in the CACC standings, the University of Bridgeport's softball team split a doubleheader with Caldwell (21-13, 11-1) on Wednesday at Seaside Park. The Purple Knights (22-16, 7-3 CACC) took the finale, 7-4, after dropping a 13-6 opener.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 7, Caldwell 4
After plating a run in the second, the Purple Knights broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by Paityn Thibodeaux's bases-clearing double that pushed the lead to 6-0.
UB's offense continued to produce behind Isabella Benjamin, who homered twice in the contest, including a solo shot in the fifth after launching another during the pivotal fourth.
Breanna Pelaez also delivered in the big frame, ripping an RBI single to bring home Sienna Lucas as part of the rally.
In the circle, Samantha Ledger turned in a strong performance to earn her 10th win of the season, tossing a complete game while allowing just three earned runs on three hits across seven innings of work.
GAME ONE – Caldwell 13, Bridgeport 6
Trailing 7-2 through four-and-half innings, the Purple Knights stormed back with a four-run fifth to cut the deficit to just one, highlighted by a pair of two-run home runs from Thibodeaux and Benjamin.
Caldwell, however, answered in the sixth inning with five runs to regain control and pull away for the win.
UB saw several strong individual performances at the plate, as Mya Jones, Thibodeaux, McKenzie Morgan and Sydnee Perreault each recorded multi-hit efforts.
Jones also reached a major career milestone in the opener, as her RBI single in the first inning marked the 200th hit of her career. She owns a remarkable .404 career batting average across 164 career games played.
Benjamin's two-run blast in the fifth was her first of three home runs on the day across the doubleheader, while Thibodeaux also contributed a two-run shot during the rally.

The Purple Knights will host Chestnut Hill for another CACC doubleheader on Saturday at noon. It will be UB's Senior Day at Seaside Park.
