BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a stretch of three doubleheaders across a four-day span, the University of Bridgeport's softball team (19-15, 4-2 CACC) split a pair of conference contests at Post on Friday. UB won the finale, 9-1, after dropping a 7-6 opener.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 9, Post 1 (Five Innings)
UB responded in emphatic fashion in the nightcap, erupting for a seven-run second inning en route to a dominant five-inning win.
After surrendering a run in the opening frame, the Purple Knights quickly took control in the second. UB strung together six hits in the inning—including four doubles and a two-run home run off the bat of Mya Jones, her third of the season—to build a commanding 7-1 advantage.
Bridgeport's offense stayed hot throughout the contest, finishing with 12 hits in just five innings, with half of those going for extra bases. Five different Purple Knights recorded multi-hit performances, while seven players accounted for RBIs in the balanced attack.
Lacie Grenier, McKenzie Morgan, Isabella Benjamin and Sydnee Perreault all contributed doubles as part of the extra-base barrage.
In the circle, Samantha Ledger tosses a complete-game gem by allowing just one run on two hits over five innings while striking out four to earn her eighth win of the season.
GAME ONE – Post 7, Bridgeport 6
The Purple Knights saw a pair of early leads slip away in the opener, as Post rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with a 7-6 victory.
UB came out swinging, building a 5-0 advantage through the first two innings and later extending the cushion to 6-1 in the fourth.
The Purple Knights totaled 10 hits in the game, highlighted by a standout performance from Genna D'Amato, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Paityn Thibodeaux fueled the early offense with a pair of RBI singles, while Morgan added two hits of her own and delivered a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to push the lead back to five.
