DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – In the first of two non-conference doubleheaders this week, the University of Bridgeport's softball team dropped a pair of matchups at Mercy on Tuesday afternoon. The sweep moves the Purple Knights' record to 17-13 overall this season while they remain 3-1 in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Mercy 10, Bridgeport 9
Facing an early 7-1 deficit, the Purple Knights showed resilience in the opener. UB chipped away at the lead throughout, pulling within 9-8 after a four-run fifth inning that featured timely hitting and a pair of Mercy errors.
UB continued its rally in the sixth when Sydnee Perreault launched a solo home run—her first of two on the day—to trim the deficit to just 10-9.
Power played a major role in the comeback effort, as UB blasted three home runs in the contest, including long balls from Perreault, Paityn Thibodeaux, and Isabella Benjamin.
Mya Jones paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while seven different Purple Knights combined to produce the team's nine hits.
GAME TWO – Mercy 8, Bridgeport 4 (Six Innings due to darkness)
Up 4-2 after four innings, a six-run fifth from Mercy proved to be the difference in the finale.
Perreault set the tone right away for UB, blasting a leadoff solo home run to give the Purple Knights an immediate 1-0 advantage.
After Mercy answered with two runs in the second, UB surged back in the fourth inning, as Jones delivered an RBI single before Thibodeaux launched her second home run of the day—a two-run shot—to put the Purple Knights ahead 4-2.
Perreault and Thibodeaux once again provided the power, each homering in the finale, while Jones stayed hot at the plate with two more hits.
Jones finished the doubleheader going 5-for-7 overall to pace the Purple Knights offensively.
