Softball Drops a Pair of Home Games to Adelphi

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Beginning a stretch of three doubleheaders over the next four days, the University of Bridgeport's softball team (11-7) dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Adelphi on Wednesday at Seaside Park.

GAME ONE – Adelphi 10, Bridgeport 3
At the plate, Nathalie Mongrain and Paityn Thibodeaux led the way with multi-hit performances, each going 2-for-4.

Thibodeaux added a double, while Mongrain hit a pair of singles.

Hailey Smith contributed a 1-for-3 outing that included a double and a run scored, while also seeing time in the circle in relief.

Lacie Grenier provided one of UB's key offensive moments, finishing 1-for-4 with an RBI single, and Sydnee Perreault drove in a run while also scoring once and swiping a base.

Isabella Benjamin chipped in a single of her own as part of Bridgeport's seven-hit team effort.

GAME TWO – Adelphi 9, Bridgeport 3
Mya Jones paced the Purple Knights offensively with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate, including her 15th career home run, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk as she reached base in all four of her plate appearances.

Alyssa Castillo also made an impact off the bench, going 1-for-1 with an RBI single and a stolen base.

Mongrain crossed the plate twice and drew a walk, while McKenzie Morgan added an RBI and Melanie Martin chipped in with a hit in her lone at-bat. 

In the circle, Samantha Ledger went five innings, allowing six hits and striking out two, while Samantha Sponder was effective in relief with two scoreless innings, yielding no hits and striking out a pair.

UP NEXT
The Purple Knights will face another NE10 foe, Assumption, tomorrow afternoon in Worcester. UB and the Greyhounds will play a doubleheader, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
