Softball Defeats Dominican, 3-2, to Advance to CACC's Championship Weekend
Sydnee Perreault the hero for UB with a solo home run in the sixth that broke a 2-2 tie.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Propelled by a solo home run from Sydnee Perreault that broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned a 3-2 win over eighth-seeded Dominican in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Monday afternoon.
The top-seeded Purple Knights (33-12) now advance to the double-elimination portion of the CACC Championship, beginning this Thursday at 11 a.m. UB will serve as the hosts of the conference's "Championship Weekend".
Perreault served as the hero for Bridgeport as she picked the perfect time to launch her first home run of the season. The sophomore's blast with one out ended up being the difference as Kaite Burawski closed the door in the top of the seventh.
Speaking of Burawski, she was as effective as ever in going the distance for the 20th time this season. The left-hander allowed just the two runs while piling up 11 strikeouts and yielding six hits.
Burawski, who was named the CACC's Pitcher of the Year earlier this afternoon, improves her record to 18-4 this season with an ERA of just 1.74. She also now has 171 strikeouts this season (1st, CACC).
Bridgeport's other two runs in the game came off a one-out double from Madison D'Amato in the third inning that put UB up 2-1 at the time.
Charlee Horton led off that third frame with a single while Emily Chase's sac bunt was thrown into right field to set the table for D'Amato.
