BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a stretch of 10 games in a seven-day span, the University of Bridgeport's softball team split a doubleheader with Molloy on Thursday. The 1-1 afternoon puts the Purple Knights' record at 27-11 overall this season.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 4, Molloy 3
With the score tied at 3-3 with two outs in the sixth, Emily Chase came up with an RBI single to put the home squad ahead. Kaite Burawski was then able to close the door in the seventh for UB's opening win.
Speaking of Burawski, she picked up her 14th victory of the year (14-4) in the circle. She went the distance for the 16th time this season, allowing just three earned runs and striking out seven.
Burawski leads the CACC in both strikeouts (143) and opposing batting average (.195) this season while also ranking second in ERA (1.92).
It was a balanced offensive effort for the home squad as six different Purple Knights combined for their six hits.
Angela Oros and Mya Jones joined Chase with RBI knocks with Oros recording her 12th double of the year in the first inning.
Jones continues to rank second in the CACC in RBIs this season with 44. She has tallied at least one RBI in 25 games this season.
GAME TWO – Molloy 8, Bridgeport 5
Jones and senior Madison D'Amato led the Purple Knights' attack with two hits apiece in the finale. D'Amato also scored a run in a steal of home and provided an RBI single.
D'Amato, who had her 32-game hitting streak snapped in the opener, started a new streak in game two. D'Amato's incredible hitting streak goes down as the sixth longest in the history of NCAA Division II softball.
The senior shortstop continues to lead the CACC in a plethora of statistical categories this season, including an incredible batting average of .480 which also ranks in the top-10 in the country.
D'Amato also paces the CACC in total hits (61), runs scored (46), on-base percentage (.556) and doubles (17) this season.
Freshman Paityn Thibodeaux, meanwhile, reached base a team-high three times in game two courtesy of a single and two walks. She is now on a 6-for-6 stretch with two walks over her last three games.
