ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Sparked by one of their best offensive afternoons of the season, the University of Bridgeport's softball team swept a doubleheader at Dominican on Wednesday. The victories improve the Purple Knights' record to 26-10 this season and 16-2 in the conference.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 10, Dominican 6
In a year of great stat lines, Angela Oros provided some of her best work in the opener. The graduate student went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs.
Oros launched a grand slam, her seventh long ball of the season, to provide UB with a 9-1 lead in the sixth inning.
Sam Ledger matched Oros with two home runs in the contest. She hit solo bombs in her first and last at-bats of the game.
Mya Jones joined in the Bridgeport attack with a pair of RBI singles. She put UB on the board in the top of the first inning after Madison D'Amato doubled to start the game.
Kaite Burawski picked up career win No. 73 in the circle. The left-hander finished with nine strikeouts in her 15th complete game of the year.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 10, Dominican 3
After 13 hits in the opener, the Purple Knights racked up 15 more in the finale.
D'Amato led the Bridgeport offense with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate that extended her current hitting streak to a remarkable 32 straight games.
D'Amato's 32-game hitting streak now ranks as the sixth longest in the history of NCAA Division II softball.
D'Amato's terrific afternoon improved her conference-leading batting average to .492 this season. She is also ranked No. 1 in the CACC in on-base percentage (.569), doubles (17) and runs scored (45).
Ledger followed up her two long balls from game one with a two-run home run in the finale. She also added a single to finish the day with five total hits.
Paityn Thibodeaux, meanwhile, went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish with a double and three singles.
In the circle, Vise Zarate went the distance for her 10th win of the season. She allowed just three runs while finishing with six strikeouts.
