Softball Picked Second in CACC Preseason Coaches Poll
UB’s 2024 opener is scheduled for Feb. 24 at the University of Tampa.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – As the countdown to spring continues, the University of Bridgeport's softball team was voted to finish second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) according to the preseason coaches poll released on Tuesday. The Purple Knights finished 13 points shy of the conference favorite, Wilmington University.
UB's recognition from the coaches reflects the Purple Knights returning a significant amount from a team that won 30 games for a second straight season in 2023. In fact, the Purple Knights have 13 returners from a year ago including a total of 10 upperclassmen.
Head coach Dawn Stearns is also back for her 15th season at the helm of the UB softball program. Stearns has led the Purple Knights to unprecedented success over the last four years, having won a total of 122 games with three conference championships and three NCAA appearances.
The Purple Knights hope for good weather when they begin the spring with a 14-game trip to Florida. UB's 2024 opener is scheduled for Feb. 24 at the University of Tampa.
Following the excursion down south, Bridgeport will play its CACC opener on March 16 at Wilmington. They will then make their home debut on March 19 against Dominican.
