Columbus, Ga.-The University of Bridgeport softball team came up on the short end of two close ball games on day two of the NCFA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia, as the Purple Knights (0-4) began the day with a 4-1 loss against the Hillsdale College Chargers (3-4) and the wrapped up play by being edge by the Ohio Dominican University Panthers (5-8), 4-3.
Against Hillsdale, junior Grace Derita (Middletown, Conn.) had three hits and scored UB's lone run.
Versus Ohio Dominican, the Purple Knights tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning, the Panthers pushed across what proved to the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Newcomer Gabby Simms (Grad., Phoenixville, Pa) had two runs batted in, and junior Hailey Kim (Virginia Beach, Va.) plated UB's other marker.
On Sunday, the Purple Knights will close out play at the 2023 NCFA Leadoff Classic I with a 9:00 a.m. game versus Shaw University and then head to Florida to begin the Sunshine State portion of their Spring Trip on Monday versus Assumption University.
