Farmingdale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport cross country teams opened their 2019 schedules on Friday afternoon at a soggy Bethpage State Park on Long Island, and the UB women finished in tenth place; while the Bridgeport men finished the twelfth spot on the day.
Senior Carina Mitchell (Gales Ferry, Conn.) was the top Bridgeport finisher on the women's side covering the 5K course in a time of 24:47.10 which was good for the 53rd scoring place. Classmate Ashley Arroyo (Hamden, Conn.) finished one place behind Mitchell in a time of 24:52.70.
On the men's side, senior Kari Hassinen (Helsinki, Finland) covered the 8K course in a time of 33:15.80 to be the first Purple Knight across the finish line and take scoring spot number 63. Junior Bretton Marks (Higganum, Conn.) was the next Bridgeport finisher in a time of 33:31.10 placing him in 65th scoring place.
Next up for the Bridgeport cross country teams will be a trip to the NYIT Invitational on Saturday, September 14.
