Men's Track and Field Claims Two Titles on Day Two of CACC Championships
Vandelli neared a CACC Championship record in the 800m while Middleton won the 1500m in dramatic fashion.
LAKEWOOD, N.J. – A pair of conference titles powered the University of Bridgeport's men's track and field team on Saturday as the Purple Knights wrapped up competition at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Outdoor Championships in Lakewood, N.J.
Edoardo Vandelli delivered a dominant performance in the 800m, cruising to victory in 1:52.65 and winning by more than three seconds to secure UB's first-ever men's CACC championship. He was 0.36 seconds away from breaking the meet record in the event.
Toby Middleton added another gold in thrilling fashion in the 1500m, using a powerful closing kick to edge Jefferson's Mason Moore by just 0.09 seconds with a time of 4:04.74.
Middleton returned to the track shortly after that dramatic ending to contribute additional points with a sixth-place finish in the 5K (16:04.26), while Darreyle Simpson turned in a fourth-place showing in the high jump (1.81m).
Vandelli also returned to race the fastest split (50.6) of UB's 4x400 relay team. UB's squad of Vandelli, Sunil Peters, Alex Sanchez and Damian Coles posted a 9th-place mark of 3:35.72.
