Several School Records Fall for Track and Field at SCSU's Wilton Wright Invitational
Purple Knights total four school records to go along with numerous PRs.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Highlighted by four school-record performances, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams returned to action on Friday at SCSU's Wilton Wright Invitational.
Men's Highlights/Top Finishers:
Freshman Jeremy Choi led the way in the field, delivering a record-breaking performance in the hammer throw with a toss of 42.89 meters to place 14th while setting both a personal record and a new program mark. He also added another personal best in the discus with a throw of 33.90 meters.
On the track, Toby Middleton etched his name into the record books as well, placing sixth in the 5000m with a time of 16:10.85 to establish a new school record.
Edoardo Vandelli turned in one of Bridgeport's top finishes of the meet, earning a runner-up finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:03.63.
Darreyle Simpson also reached the podium for the Purple Knights, placing second in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m
Sunil Peters added an 11th-place finish in the 100m (11.36), while Samuel Dundas was UB's top finisher in both the 200m (23.15, 30th) and 400m (52.70, 25th).
Alex Sanchez contributed in multiple events as well, finishing ninth in the 400-hurdles with a time of 59.45 while also placing 15th in the javelin with a throw of 36.40 meters.
Women's Highlights/Top Finishers:
Monsio Davies led the way in the field events, breaking the school record in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 4.99m to place 14th while also hitting the CACC qualifying standard. She added another top finish in the triple jump, placing 10th with a mark of 10.00m.
On the track, Julia Fortune turned in a standout performance, finishing fourth in the 1500m with a time of 5:20.98 to set a new school record.
Marcela Banuelos also posted a strong showing, placing 11th in the 800m in 2:41.21.
Emma Pastorelli competed in both sprint events, finishing 16th in the 100m (13.21) and 29th in the 200m (28.27), while Suweba Jawula added a 17th-place finish in the 400m with a time of 1:05.64.
In the throws, Eileen Ogbuka rounded out Bridgeport's top efforts with a 21st-place finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 6.93m.
