Track and Field Squads Break School Records at David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Purple Knights set new marks in the 200m and 800m.
BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams sent six student-athletes to BU's highly competitive David Hemery Valentine Invitational this past weekend (Feb. 13-14) in Boston, Mass.
The UB men began the action on Friday, highlighted by a pair of personal-best performances and school records.
Freshman Kamal Abdul-Aziz continued his terrific rookie season with a PR in the 200m. The Binghamton, N.Y. native notched a new program record with a time of 22.11.
Abdul-Aziz also sprinted to a PR in the 60m with an eighth-place mark of 6.97.
Edoardo Vandelli registered UB's second school record of the weekend in the 800m. The Italy native rattled off a personal-best mark of 1:53.91.
Vandelli's time in the 800m also serves as the third fastest in the region this season.
On the women's side, Fiona Richards and Emma Pastorelli each competed in Saturday's action.
Pastorelli ran a season-best 27.56 in the 200m while also posting a 9.45 in the 60-hurdles.
Richards tossed an 11.09m in the shot put before launching a mark of 16.03m in the weight throw.
