Panzera and Vandelli of Men's Track and Field Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors
Both Purple Knights finished with top-five marks in the east region this outdoor season.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In honor of top-five marks in the East this spring, freshman Edoardo Vandelli and sophomore John Panzera of the University of Bridgeport's track and field team were each named All-Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.
Panzera, who also earned All-Region honors as a freshman, put together an even more impressive 2025 campaign. In fact, the Haddam, Conn. native upped his decathlon score from a year ago by 467 points which pushed him up to third in the region after finishing fifth in 2024. He did his damage at the UMass Multis on April 9-10 where he racked up a final mark of 5,769 points and posted a PR in the discus. Panzera wrapped up his year with four top-eight finishes at the CACC Championships, including a fourth-place effort in the javelin.
Vandelli, meanwhile, was terrific during his debut season at Bridgeport. The Italian ended up fourth in the region in the 800-meter with a time at 1:53.24, which he ran at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational on March 28. He placed second amongst DII runners in that race and sixth overall. Vandelli caps off a rookie year that featured CACC All-Conference honors in cross country during the fall and a seventh-place regional finish in the 800-meter during the indoor season.
