Toussi and Azat of Men's Swimming and Diving Earn NE10 Weekly Awards
Duo has now combined for seven conference weekly awards this season.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following a plethora of standout performances at the ECAC Winter Championships over the weekend, freshmen Christian Toussi and Sultanbek Azat of UB's men's swimming and diving team each earned Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards on Tuesday. Toussi was named as the NE10's Swimmer of the Week while Azat took home Rookie of the Week honors.
Toussi has been named an NE10 weekly award winner for the fourth time this season after another standout weekend in the pool. Competing against a deep field of Division I swimmers at the ECAC Championships, Toussi delivered five individual performances that now rank first in the conference. His best finishes came in the 100-fly, where he took second in 48.99, and the 100-free, placing fourth in 44.72—both the top marks in the NE10.
Toussi also played a major role on three UB relay teams that turned in conference-leading times. His 22.04 split in the 50-back during the 200-medley relay stands as the fastest in the NE10 and the ninth-fastest in Division II this season. He added another conference-best with a 47.41 split in the 100-back to help power the Purple Knights' 400 medley relay.
Azat nabs his third NE10 weekly honor of the year after posting four times of his own that are currently atop the conference leaderboard. Competing against a challenging field at ECACs, Azat reached the podium in all three of his individual events. He placed third in the 200-free with a 1:38.82, took runner-up in the 500-free in 4:25.78, and added another third-place finish in the 1650, touching in 15:41.13. All three swims currently lead the conference.
Azat was equally impactful on UB's relays, earning podium finishes in each appearance. He helped the Purple Knights to second in the 800-free relay (6:42.30), while contributing to third-place efforts in both the 400-medley relay (3:17.02) and 400-free relay (3:02.43). Each relay time ranks first in the NE10 this season.
