Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats Saint Peter's to Stay Unbeaten in Dual Meets
Purple Knights won 14 events en route to moving to 6-0 in duals this season.
MILFORD, Conn. – Facing a Division I opponent in a dual meet for the first time this season, the University of Bridgeport's men's swimming and diving team posted a 195-79 win over Saint Peter's University on Saturday at the McCann Natatorium in Milford.
It was a dominant effort for the Purple Knights, who are now a perfect 6-0 in dual meets this season. UB won all but one event, swept the relays and had three swimmers earn multiple individual triumphs.
The Purple Knights set the tone immediately with a victory in the 200-medley relay, as the quartet of Christian Toussi, Jurica Dragun, Maximiliano Pedrozo Sevila, and William Crecca touched first in 1:33.53.
Sultanbek Azat followed with a triumphant swim in the 1000-free (9:30.32) before later adding a first-place effort in the 500-free (4:35.01).
Pedrozo Sevila doubled up as well, taking the 100-breast in 58.44 before adding a victory in the 100-fly at 51.68. Ignacy Olownia rounded out the multi-event winners with strong performances in the 200-fly, clocking 1:57.29, and the 200-IM, where he stopped the clock at 1:59.09.
Bridgeport's depth was on full display as additional wins poured in from across the roster. Pacome Sidelski captured the 200-free in 1:43.94, Toussi added an individual title in the 100-back (50.25), and Crecca sprinted to the top of the 50-free in 21.92.
On the boards, Juan David Urrea Vargas contributed a victory of his own by taking the one-meter dive with a 165.60 score. Camilo Villalba Vera continued the momentum with a win in the 100-free (49.53), while Dragun claimed the 200-breast in 2:06.58.
The Purple Knights closed the meet the same way they started it by winning the 200-free relay. The squad of Villalba Vera, Toussi, Dragun, and Crecca combined for a time of 1:27.13, sealing a near-perfect outing for UB.
