Bruno Cakurs of Men's Soccer Named First-Team Academic All-American by CSC

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a well-deserved offseason of awards and accolades, University of Bridgeport men's soccer senior Bruno Cakurs earned his most prestigious honor yet on Tuesday. The Latvia native, who carries a perfect 4.0 GPA, was named a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American.

BRUNO'S ATHLETIC ACCOLADES:

Cakurs put together a remarkable season for the 2025 CACC Champions, earning CACC Defensive Player of the Year honors while also being named First Team All-Conference. His impact extended beyond the league level, as he was selected to the D2CCA All-East Region First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team.

A steady presence along the back line, Cakurs started 21 matches for a UB defense that allowed one goal or fewer in 14 contests. Bridgeport's defensive unit also posted a 0.9 goals-against average in conference play, reflecting its consistency throughout the season.

Over the course of his UB career, Cakurs appeared in 71 matches, representing roughly 90 percent of the Purple Knights' games over the last four years. He made 58 starts during that span, underscoring his reliability and durability. Cakurs capped his Bridgeport tenure as one of the program's most accomplished and dependable defenders.

BRUNO'S ACADEMIC ACCOLADES:

Cakurs has built an outstanding academic resume during his collegiate career, highlighted by a perfect 4.0 GPA while completing 93 credits as a finance major.

In 2025, Cakurs was named the CACC's Top XVI Award winner, recognizing the highest GPA among student-athletes at the conference finals site. He has earned CSC Academic All-District honors twice, reflecting his consistent excellence in the classroom. Cakurs was also a two-time selection to the CACC's All-Academic Team and a two-time recipient of the D2ADA's Academic Achievement Award.

Cakurs' dedication to academics has been further showcased by four appearances on the CACC's Academic Honor Roll.
