BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing against their fourth nationally ranked opponent of the season, the University of Bridgeport's men's soccer team posted a 2-1 win over No. 23 Adelphi on Wednesday night at Knights Field. The impressive result pushes the Purple Knights' overall record to 4-4-7 overall. They remain 3-0-5 in the CACC.
Graduate student Samuel Dundas opened the scoring for UB with his third goal of the season in the 36th minute. The 6-8 defender put away a bouncing ball off a corner kick into the box.
After Adelphi equalized early in the second half, Bridgeport responded less than two minutes later when Calvin Paulick buried the go-ahead goal off a setup from Kaanturk Akgul in the 56th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Magnus Midtlien was sharp in his third start of the season, registering five saves to secure his first career win.
One of those Midtlien saves was a diving stop in the 90th minute that ultimately saved the victory for UB.
Bridgeport edged Adelphi 15–14 in total shots while maintaining composure in a physical match that saw eight yellow cards issued.
The Purple Knights are now 2-2 in games against nationally ranked opponents this season. UB's other victory came at No. 16 Wilmington on Sept. 27.
