Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team fell to the visiting Mercy College Mavericks, 1-0, in an East Coast Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Knights Field. UB is now 2-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in ECC play. Wednesday's victory gives Mercy College its seventh win of the year, as the Mavericks are now 7-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play.
The contest was a hard fought match by both teams as the Mavericks narrowly outshot the home team,15-13. The Purple Knights had the 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Ericson Penate of Mercy College scored the lone goal of the match with the assist from teammate Manuel Achando just 15:08 into play in the first half.
Purple Knights' junior goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) had a strong afternoon making five saves in the match including several point-blank stop late in the contest..
Up next, the Bridgeport men's soccer team will look to get back in the win column in front of a Homecoming crowd when the University of District of Columbia travels to Knights Field for an East Coast Conference match this Saturday afternoon. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
