Newark. Del.-The host Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats rallied with two second half goals to post a 3-2 non-conference men's soccer win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Wilmington ups its record to 9-6 in 2014, and UB is now 4-8 on the year, with six of those losses coming by a single goal.
Bridgeport got on the board quickly on Tuesday when senior, captain Christoffer Olesen (Kristiansand, Norway) headed home his second goal of the year off a corner kick from sophomore Jay Abreu (Sao Paulo, Brazil) just 5:53 in the match.
After the Wildcats tied things at 1-1 with a goal from a free kick in the 23rd minute, the Purple Knights would then take a 2-1 lead with another goal off corner kick when Abreu this time found Lazar Baresic (Fr., Belgrade, Serbia) who headed home his second goal of the season at the 33:25 mark. Jay Abreu now leads the team with five assists on the season.
With UB leading 2-1 heading into the second half, Wilmington with net goals in 57th minute to tie match at 2-2 and the game-winner at the 70:00 mark of action. The Wildcats outshot Bridgeport, 13-7 on the afternoon.
Purple Knights' goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid, Spain) made two saves on the day.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's soccer team will wrap up its long, six-match road swing Saturday afternoon, when the team returns to East Coast Conference action and will look to snap a four-match losing streak at NYIT. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m. on Long Island.
