Canino and Runyan Grab CACC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honors
Luciano Canino, CACC Player of the Week | Luca Runyan, CACC Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In honor of sensational stat lines in a pair of victories last week, junior Luciano Canino and senior Luca Runyan of the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team claimed weekly honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Monday. Canino was selected as the CACC's Player of the Week while Runyan took home his second Defensive Player of the Week award.
Canino provided a superb all-around performance, leading the Purple Knights with 12 points during a 2-0 week. He delivered a career-best outing in Saturday's 17-16 win at Holy Family, erupting for 10 points on seven goals and three assists, including the game-winner with 4:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. Canino also collected five ground balls and added a pair of caused turnovers on the week.
Runyan was equally impressive on the defensive side of things for UB. The senior finished the undefeated stretch with a team-high 10 caused turnovers to go along with 11 ground balls. He notched seven of those CTs during UB's critical win at Holy Family on Saturday. Runyan, who added an assist in each contest as well, is now ranked fourth in the CACC this season in caused turnovers per game.
Canino, Runyan and the rest of UB's men's lacrosse team will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Dominican (6:30 p.m.). UB will celebrate Senior Day at Knights Field.
