Men's Basketball Comes Up Short at No. 25 Felician, 81-71
Purple Knights trim 16-point second-half deficit to just three but unable to complete comeback.
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Squaring off against first-place and No. 25 nationally ranked Felician (23-2, 18-1 CACC) on Wednesday night, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team (10-16, 7-12 CACC) fell to the Golden Falcons, 81–71, on the road inside JJJ Gymnasium.
The Purple Knights trailed 41–26 at halftime after shooting just 31.3 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, but responded with a much stronger second half, connecting at a 52.8 percent clip after the break.
UB trimmed the deficit to just 69-66 with 4:43 remaining in regulation following a 32-19 run, but the Golden Falcons answered down the stretch to secure the win.
The Purple Knights featured a balanced offensive effort with four players reaching double figures, led by Jason Edokpayi's 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He also added nine rebounds and two blocks in a strong all-around performance.
Travis Upchurch and Jaheem Tyson provided a spark off the bench, as Upchurch tallied 13 points and three assists while Tyson recorded a double-double with 10 points and team highs of 14 rebounds and five assists.
Shedrach Makanjuola chipped in 10 points, while Jayson Handy and Jaden Palmer added eight points apiece, with Palmer also dishing out four assists.
