Men's Basketball Closes Strong in Comeback Win at Wilmington
Purple Knights close game on 22-7 run, improve to 6-5 in the CACC.
NEWARK, Del. – Propelled by another 50-plus points in the second half, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team seized an 86-81 comeback win at Wilmington on Saturday afternoon. The hard-fought road victory improves the Purple Knights' record to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in the CACC.
Trailing by seven at halftime with 34 total points in the opening 20 minutes, the Purple Knights erupted for 52 second-half points and outscored the Wildcats by 12 after the break.
Bridgeport's late-game execution proved decisive, as the Purple Knights closed the contest on a 22–7 run after Wilmington held a 10-point advantage with 6:55 remaining in regulation.
UB's interior presence was a major difference throughout, as the Purple Knights outrebounded the Wildcats by 12 (41-29) while also holding a 42-30 edge in points in the paint.
Isaiah Sullivan delivered a sensational performance to pace Bridgeport's offense, pouring in a season-high 28 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-for-7 from three-point range, while knocking down all 10 of his free throws.
The junior also tied for the team lead with seven rebounds and notched his seventh 20-point outing of the season, scoring in double figures for the 17th time in 18 games.
Sullivan scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half.
Jason Edokpayi anchored the Purple Knights defensively with a career-high six blocks, helping UB register a season-best seven rejections as a team.
Edokpayi also chipped in 15 points and was instrumental down the stretch with rim protection (five blocks over the final 8:54).
UB's depth again made a major impact, as the Purple Knights' bench outscored Wilmington's reserves by 13 and accounted for 39 of UB's 86 points.
Jaheem Tyson piloted Bridgeport's subs with 14 points, seven rebounds and a team-best four assists, while Jayson Handy added 10 points and six boards.
Sophomore Eddie Fisher also made an impact off the bench with six points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal.
