Men's Basketball Clipped in Final Minute at Dominican
Purple Knights fall to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the CACC.
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Hampered by a season-low point total, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team dropped a 56-54 contest at Dominican on Wednesday night. The road defeat puts the Purple Knights' record at 8-7 this season (5-3, CACC).
Jayson Handy led UB's offense with a team-high 12 points while adding eight rebounds, marking his fifth double-figure scoring effort of the season.
Jason Edokpayi recorded his fourth double-double of the year with 11 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with a season-best four blocks, continuing his strong stretch in which he has scored in double figures in 10 straight games.
Jaheem Tyson filled up the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds and a team-high five assists, while John Dash Jr. added nine points to rank third on the Purple Knights.
Despite outrebounding Dominican 49-46, Bridgeport struggled to convert offensively. The Purple Knights finished the night at 35.5 percent from the field and just 3-of-17 (17.6 percent) from three-point range—both their second-lowest marks of the season.
The Purple Knights also recorded season lows in points scored (54), steals (three) and forced turnovers (seven).
UB was held to just five points over the final 5:58 of regulation which included a 2-for-8 effort from the floor.
