BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a six-game home stand inside Hubbell Gym, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team dropped an 85-72 matchup to Saint Anselm College on Tuesday night. The non-conference defeat shifts the Purple Knights' record to an even 5-5 this season (3-1, CACC).
It was a once again a balanced box score for UB as four players finished in double figures, but a cold shooting night ultimately proved costly.
Graduate student Jason Edokpayi continued his strong stretch of play, leading the Purple Knights in scoring for the third straight game with a team-high 17 points while adding seven rebounds.
Edokpayi's consistency has boosted his season averages to 12.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest, while shooting an efficient 51 percent from the floor.
Zay Sullivan, Bridgeport's leading scorer this season, followed closely with 16 points to match his season average. He has now reached double figures in all 10 games this year.
Sullivan also contributed defensively with a team-best two steals.
The Purple Knights received a spark off the bench from Eddie Fisher, who poured in a season-high 12 points, while John Dash Jr. also reached double figures with 10 points and dished out a team-leading four assists.
Jaheem Tyson led UB on the glass, pulling down a team-high nine rebounds off the bench to go along with four points, one steal and one assist.
Bridgeport generated plenty of offensive opportunities, attempting 18 more shots than Saint Anselm, but struggled to convert consistently. UB finished 27-of-71 from the field (38.0 percent), marking its third-lowest shooting performance of the season.
Trailing by one at the break, the Purple Knights were outscored by 12 over the final 20 minutes of action.
