Men’s Basketball Opens CACC Slate With Convincing 98–74 Win Over Wilmington
Purple Knights put five in double figures, outrebound the Wildcats by 30.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Powered by a 61–31 rebounding advantage and five double-figure scorers, the University of Bridgeport's men's basketball team cruised to a 98–74 win over Wilmington on Tuesday night in Hubbell Gym. The 24-point victory moves UB to 3–1 on the season, including a 1–0 start in conference play.
The Purple Knights' dominance on the glass featured their most rebounds in a game since 2023. UB grabbed 26 of those boards on the offensive side of things, turning those extra chances into 20 second-chance points.
The Purple Knights' rebounding efforts helped generate 82 shots attempts, converting 40 of them, including a season-high 11 three-pointers.
UB's depth was on full display, as 18 players saw action, 11 scored from the field, and nine different Purple Knights hauled in multiple rebounds.
Additionally, five different players scored in double figures, led by Jayson Handy's 14 points and career-high 16 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action.
Zay Sullivan and Jaheem Tyson each added 15 points, with Sullivan hitting 5-of-9 from deep and Tyson collecting 11 rebounds for his first double-double at UB.
Gabe Charleston chipped in 10 points, while Jaden Palmer provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, five assists (team high) and five rebounds.
Jason Edokpayi served as Bridgeport's final double-digit scorer with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. He also led the squad with a pair of blocks.
UB controlled the game from the start, building a 51–31 halftime lead and finishing with 57 bench points. Bridgeport dominated the paint (54–36 in points inside) and converted 20 points off turnovers while holding Wilmington to 39.7% shooting from the field.
