Balanced Effort Not Enough As Men's Basketball Drops 87-83 Decision At Stonehill

N. Easton, Mass.-All ten players that saw action in the game scored, but it was not enough for the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team, as the visiting Purple Knights lost their final game of the 2016 calendar year at Stonehill College, 87-83, on Saturday afternoon.  UB is now 7-6 overall, and the host Skyhawks, who have now won six games in a row, are 9-4 so far this season.

Bridgeport led by as many as nine points in the first half, and the Purple Knights held a 43-38 lead at the half, but the host Skyhawks opened the second half on 19-8 run to grab a 57-51 advantage with just over six minutes gone in the second stanza.

The Purple Knights would chip away to tie the game at 75-75 with 3:35 to play, but Stonehill closed the game out on a 12-8 run to pick up the victory.

Senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) notched his tenth double-double of the season to lead UB with 18 points and 10 rebounds, plus he also blocked three shots.

Benjamin was joined in double figures by juniors Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points and Carlos DeJesus (Bronx, N.Y.) with 11 points.

Ryan Logan led four Stonehill players in double figures with a game-high 26 points.

Up next, the UB men's basketball team will look to snap a four-game losing streak when they return to Hubbell Gym on Wednesday night, January 4 for an East Coast Conference clash with Queens (N.Y.) College.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
