Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) has been selected as the East Coast Conference men's basketball player of the Week for his fine performance in games that took place from November 28 through December 4, 2016.
Benjamin averaged a double-double on the week at 23.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, plus he blocked a whopping total of 11 shots on the week to help Bridgeport go 2-0 with victories over NYIT and Mercy. In a road win at NYIT on Wednesday, Kyle scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. He followed that up with 23 points and eight boards in a Saturday home win over Mercy. Versus NYIT, he erased four shots, and followed that up with seven blocks against Mercy. Benjamin also chipped in three steals and three assists on the week and connected on 80.0 percent of his field goals (20-of-25).
This week, Benjamin and his teammates, who have posted a 6-2 overall record so far this season, host Daemen College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.
