No. 1 Seed Wilmington - CACC Quarterfinal Series
NEW CASTLE, Del. - The eighth-seeded University of Bridgeport baseball team (21-25, 17-16 CACC) saw its 2026 season come to an end on Friday, dropping a pair of games at top-seeded Wilmington in the CACC Quarterfinals. In the best-of-three series, the Purple Knights fell by scores of 17-8 and 9-5.
GAME ONE – Wilmington 17, Bridgeport 8
After erupting for four runs in the opening inning and building an 8-0 lead through four frames, the Purple Knights were unable to withstand a Wildcats' offense that featured 17 unanswered runs over the final five innings.
UB's attack came out firing, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Anthony Armenia in the first inning that helped set the tone early. The Purple Knights continued to apply pressure with two runs in both the third and fourth innings.
The Wildcats broke through with a six-run fourth inning to cut the deficit to 8-6, then completed the comeback with two runs in the fifth to even the score.
Despite the setback, UB produced 10 hits offensively, led by Vincenzo Della Porta and Patrick Krempasky, who each went 3-for-5 with a double while combining to score three runs.
Anthony Matturro added a multi-hit effort of his own, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Armenia drove in three runs with his early long ball.
GAME TWO – Wilmington 9, Bridgeport 5
The Purple Knights carried a 5-4 advantage into the late innings, but a decisive four-run seventh by the Wildcats proved to be the turning point.
UB struck first in the second inning, as Armenia launched a two-run home run to give UB an early edge.
The Purple Knights continued to apply pressure throughout the middle innings, regaining the lead at 4-3 in the fifth on an RBI double from Armenia before tacking on another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Liam O'Neal to move in front, 5-4.
Offensively, Della Porta paced UB with his second straight 3-for-5 performance, finishing the doubleheader 6-for-9 at the plate.
Armenia and Ryan Baldwin matched that effort with three hits apiece, with Armenia driving in three runs on the strength of his home run and RBI double.
Armenia capped a strong day overall, going 4-for-9 with two home runs and six RBIs across the two games.
