Baseball's Meister and Walsh Earn CACC Weekly Awards
Luke Meister, Player of the Week | Christian Walsh, Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following exceptional performances during a 5-1 stretch for the Purple Knights last week, graduate student Luke Meister and freshman Christian Walsh of the University of Bridgeport baseball team each earned CACC weekly awards on Monday. Meister was selected as the conference's Player of the Week while Walsh claimed Rookie of the Week honors.
Meister paced a surging UB offense that erupted for 66 runs across six games last week. The Illinois native batted .520 with 13 hits, driving in 11 runs while scoring five times and adding two home runs, two doubles, and a triple during the Purple Knights' 5-1 stretch. He recorded at least one hit in all six contests, highlighted by four multi-hit performances. Meister delivered his biggest showing in Friday's split at Chestnut Hill, going 6-for-9 with six RBIs and two long balls.
Walsh delivered a dominant outing in UB's 7-0 victory over Post on Wednesday. The freshman right-hander fired a complete-game, nine-inning shutout, allowing just two singles and two walks while facing only 31 batters. He added a pair of strikeouts in the efficient performance. Walsh has been sharp of late, going 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA across his last three outings spanning 15.0 innings pitched.
Meister, Walsh and the rest of UB's baseball team will return to action on Tuesday with their regular-season finale at Post (3:30 p.m.).
