Baseball Defeats Chestnut Hill on Senior Day to Clinch CACC Playoff Spot
Purple Knights, now 9-2 over their last 11 games, will play in their first-ever CACC Tournament next week.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Capping off a three-game conference series against Chestnut Hill College, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team (20-23, 16-16 CAC) posted an 11-6 win over the Griffins on Sunday at Seaside Park. The Senior Day victory for the Purple Knights clinches their spot in the CACC Playoffs for the first time since joining in the league in 2023.
After erupting for 30 runs in Friday's doubleheader split at CHC, the Purple Knights stayed hot at the plate with an 11-spot on Sunday.
UB found itself trailing early but quickly responded and took control for good in the third inning.
After knotting the score at 3-3 in the second, UB grabbed a 4-3 edge in the third on an RBI single from Anthony Armenia and never looked back from there.
The Purple Knights added three more runs in the sixth and broke the game open with a four-run eighth inning to put the contest out of reach.
Fittingly, several of Bridgeport's Senior Day honorees led the charge in the victory.
Anthony Matturro turned in a standout performance, finishing a home run shy of the cycle with a 3-for-5 effort that included a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Luke Meister chipped in with a pair of hits, while Liam O'Neal reached base twice and scored two runs in the win.
On the mound, senior James Ackerman delivered a strong outing to earn the win, allowing four runs over 7.1 innings while striking out five and issuing just one walk.
The offense was far from limited to the senior class, as Vincenzo Della Porta, Patrick Krempasky and Michael Incontro each recorded two hits apiece, combining for five RBIs.
Della Porta and Krempasky each drove in two runs, while Incontro added a pair of hits and an RBI to round out the balanced attack.
