NORTH WALES, Pa. – Continuing their late-season push to make the CACC playoffs, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team earned a doubleheader split at Chestnut Hill College on Friday. The Purple Knights, now winners of eight of their last 10, sit at 19-23 overall this season and 15-16 in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Chestnut Hill 14, Bridgeport 12
Despite building an 11-8 lead midway through the contest, the Purple Knights were unable to hold on as a five-run sixth inning by the Griffins proved to be the difference.
UB's offense was electric throughout the day, piling up 14 hits while scoring in six different innings. Nine of those hits went for extra bases, including a season-high five home runs.
Leading the charge was Luke Meister, who delivered a sensational performance at the plate. The Illinois native went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, blasting two home runs while also adding a double.
Patrick Krempasky continued his strong stretch as well, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a home run of his own.
Liam O'Neal and Anthony Armenia also left the yard for UB, with Armenia's blast marking his team-leading eighth of the season, while O'Neal added a double to his multi-hit effort.
On the mound, Quentin Moreland provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out one.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 18, Chestnut Hill 7
Closing out the doubleheader in emphatic fashion, the Purple Knights erupted for a season-high run total in the finale.
UB set the tone immediately, erupting for five runs in the opening inning and never looking back.
The Purple Knights' offense was relentless, piling up 15 hits while drawing 10 walks and scoring in five different innings.
UB produced three frames of at least four runs, including a five-run sixth inning that put the game well out of reach.
Tyler Pennisi delivered one of the biggest swings of the day in the first inning, ripping a bases-clearing double to give Bridgeport an early 4-0 advantage.
Anthony Matturro led all hitters in the finale, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored while also reaching base five times.
O'Neal continued his torrid stretch at the plate, following up his standout opener with another strong performance. He finished with a triple and a single while driving in three runs.
On the mound, Alex Springer was outstanding in relief. The left-hander tossed four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four to earn his second win of the season and seal the victory for UB.

The Purple Knights and Griffins will complete their three-game series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. UB will celebrate its Senior Day at Seaside Park prior to first pitch.
