BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the midst of a critical late-season push for a CACC playoff spot, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team (18-22, 14-15 CACC) earned a key doubleheader sweep of Post on Wednesday at Seaside Park. The Purple Knights claimed a 7-0 victory in the opener before edging out a 3-2 win in the finale.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 7, Post 0
Christian Walsh delivered one of the most impressive pitching performances in the CACC this season, firing a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits and two walks over nine innings.
Walsh was in complete control throughout, facing just 31 batters and never allowing Post to mount any sustained offensive threat. He scattered a pair of singles and struck out two, keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard from start to finish.
Offensively, the Purple Knights made the most of limited opportunities. UB scored all seven of its runs on just three hits, capitalizing on eight walks and a pair of Post errors.
Patrick Krempasky paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, driving in three runs. He delivered RBI knocks in both the third and sixth innings and also added a sacrifice fly as part of a productive afternoon at the plate.
Bridgeport broke the game open with three runs in both the third and fourth innings before adding an insurance tally in the sixth.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 3, Post 2
The Purple Knights answered early after falling behind 1-0, as Krempasky delivered an RBI triple in the bottom of the first to even the score.
Post regained a 2-1 edge in the second, but UB continued to chip away and eventually pulled even in the fifth before taking the lead for good an inning later.
Vincenzo Della Porta provided the decisive moment in the sixth, ripping an RBI triple to break a 2-2 tie and give UB its first lead of the game. He finished with a team-high two hits, while Krempasky also added a pair of knocks and an RBI.
Anthony Armenia joined the duo with a multi-hit effort, highlighted by a double earlier in the contest.
On the mound, Logan McGrath kept the Purple Knights within striking distance before turning things over to Brendan Palmer, who was outstanding out of the bullpen.
Palmer tossed three scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing just one hit while shutting the door late.
