Baseball Wins Slugfest at Dominican, 16-11
Purple Knights tally season-highs in runs (16), hits (19) and RBIs (16).
POMONA, N.Y. – Propelled by their best offensive game of the season, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team stormed back from a six-run deficit to earn a 16-11 win over Dominican on Tuesday afternoon at Clover Stadium in Pomona, N.Y. The conference triumph pushes the Purple Knights' CACC record to 9-15 this season (13-21 overall).
After falling behind 9-3 early, the Purple Knights chipped away and eventually evened the score at 9-9 before erupting for six runs in the eighth inning to seal the comeback win.
UB's offense was relentless throughout, setting new season highs with 16 runs, 19 hits and 16 RBIs while also drawing 10 walks.
Eight different Purple Knights recorded multi-hit performances, led by Vincenzo Della Porta and Michael Incontro, who combined to go 6-for-9 with nine RBIs.
Della Porta finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs, while Incontro went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and also scored twice.
Anthony Armenia added a triple and a two-run home run—his team-leading sixth of the season—while Luke Meister also tripled and tied with Liam O'Neal for a team-high four runs scored.
Bridgeport's decisive eighth inning featured six runs on six hits, highlighted by RBI knocks from Incontro and Della Porta before Patrick Krempasky delivered a two-run single. Armenia then capped the rally with a two-run homer to give UB a 16-11 advantage.
On the mound, senior James Ackerman was outstanding in relief, earning the win after tossing four scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just two hits while striking out three to shut the door on Dominican.
