CALDWELL, N.J. – Beginning a three-game weekend series, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team (11-21, 7-15 CACC) dropped a pair of CACC contests at Caldwell on Saturday.
GAME ONE – Caldwell 12, Bridgeport 7
UB struck first on Tyler Pennisi's one-out home run in the opening frame, but the Cougars quickly responded with three runs in the first and three more in the second to seize control.
Pennisi paced the UB offense with a standout 3-for-4 performance, highlighted by his first career home run to open the scoring and an RBI double in the seventh.
Patrick Krempasky also delivered a strong showing at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, and a game-high three RBIs, including a two-run shot in the ninth inning.
The Purple Knights showed signs of life in the sixth, stringing together three runs behind an RBI double from Krempasky and an RBI triple off the bat of Liam O'Neal, who finished with two hits and a run driven in.
Anthony Armenia and Raymond Morales each added doubles as part of Bridgeport's 11-hit effort.
Out of the bullpen, Jake Skinner provided a bright spot, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out one.
GAME TWO – Caldwell 6, Bridgeport 0
After tallying 11 hits in the opener, UB mustered just singles in the finale.
Freshman infielder Vincenzo Della Porta led the way with a 2-for-3 performance.
On the mound, Joaquin Brasher tossed a scoreless sixth out of the bullpen.
